The local police will handle the situation from there. FOOD, SNACKS, AND LUNCHES1.      One hearty, healthy snack is provided in the morning. We are sorry to say that this snack is not a replacement for breakfast. There is only one snack to give each child. There are no additional helpings of the snack. We are sorry to say that children who complain that they are “still hungry” will have an uncomfortable morning.  We have found, after years of camp experience, that a hearty breakfast of perhaps cereal, breakfast sandwich, eggs (hardboiled or otherwise) is an essential part of a solid breakfast.  Children who are experience growling stomachs cannot concentrate on all the fun ahead. Breakfast is the key.2.     Campers are encouraged to bring two snacks and a cold lunch in a sturdy lunch tote clearly labeled with the camper’s name in permanent marker. (We will not accept only snacks as a full lunch.) The children are extremely busy all day including physical activities.  An all-snack lunch, or one that consists of only fruit provides fructose sugar or refined sugars which are empty calories. These calories burn quickly. We have found, after years of experience, that a hearty sandwich is an essential part of a solid lunch. Lunches are lined up in the refrigerator in the morning and held until lunch time. Lunch totes are important because it helps the lunch to sit up straight in the refrigerator. Plastic and paper bags often leak or emit smells which can sometimes permeate the other lunches. If you are unable to obtain a lunch tote, please let us know.3.     We will contact you via your emergency or guardian contact regarding a forgotten lunch. No child can stay at the camp if they do not have a lunch by 12pm.  When notified about a forgotten lunch, please make arrangements; please make arrangements for a lunch to be delivered before 12pm.  4.     After-care campers are encouraged to bring lunch, and 2 snacks. 5.     Before-care campers are encouraged to bring lunch, and 2 snacks.   STATUS CHANGES, INFORMATON UPDATES, PICK-UP CHANGES, EARLY DISMISSALS 1.     If you must pick up your child early from camp, please inform Rachel Slaughter (R.S.), Exc. Director 24 hours in advance. If you are unable to do this, please inform R.S. before 9:30pm. Your child will not be ready at your new pick up time if NO PRIOR notice was given.2.     If your home phone number, cell number, house address or email address changes during the course of camp, please inform us immediately. Please present to R.S. any updates in change of emergency contact as well. A book for daily notes will be provided/available.3.     When necessary, R.S. will call all numbers on a periodic basis to provide all responsible parties with updates on camp (these updates will be non-emergency and emergency.) Medical Emergency Procedure/Accidents and Health and Medication Policies 1.     Injuries of a minor nature (small cuts, bruises, etc.) Staff gives necessary first aid and notifies parents of injury at the time of pick-up.2.     If the injury appears of a more serious nature, the parents will be notified immediately.3.     Children who are sick, appear sick, or otherwise unhealthy (including listless, extremely tired, excessive coughing, sneezing) will be asked to stay home. If your child is generally not feeling well, please do not bring the child to camp. We do not have a “sick room” or accommodations for children who are unable to participate in all of the activities. 4.     Children with diagnosed sickness including but not limited to colds, fevers, bronchitis, skin conditions, chicken pox are asked to stay home.   FIRE DRILL/EMERGENCY EVACUATIONS are conducted often for the safety of our students. Fire exit information is posted. Discipline Policy            1.     At Salt and Light, we teach self-control and ask the children to keep their hands to themselves.2.     Additionally, we do not permit bullying in action or words. We do not condone mean spiritedness.3.     R.S. issues a consequence for behavior that is outside of our policy. 4.     For children who do not respond well to authority, and have no desire to adhere to the school’s discipline policies, or who are otherwise disrespectful to themselves, their peers, or administrators will be asked to be picked up. A detailed report will be given to parents who are asked to remove children for the day. This behavior is different from the ordinary childhood behaviors.5.     Children who OFTEN do not respond well to authority, and have no desire to adhere to the school’s discipline policies, or who are otherwise disrespectful to themselves, their peers, or administrators may be asked to be removed from the program permanently.6.     Salt and Light staff members (including junior staff) use the following discipline techniques:a.      Redirection: Removing the child from the problem for a short time. The child will be asked to sit calmly, breathe deeply, and de-stress.b.     Positive Reinforcement:  We praise good behavior. c.      Teaching and Modeling Problem Solving Skills: We emphasize non-aggression in speech and actions. d.     Removing Privileges: Children not adhering to rules will receive a warning first. The second infraction means the removal of privileges like a fun activity or camp provided snack.e.      We do not incorporate corporal punishment in actions or words. We do not embarrass or demean children. We do not speak sarcastically to students.Valuables: Children are asked to keep all personal items or value at home. They may not bring any items to school that are deemed harmful. They may not bring animals (dead or alive), collections, toys, books, pocketbooks,  etc. We are not responsible for lost or damaged personal items. Field Trips: As a norm, we take local walking field trips.  R.S. will send home a permission slip regarding any walking trip which is more than a mile from the facility.  Center Visitation: Please feel free to visit the center. The best way to visit us is to make an appointment at least 24 hours in advance. We are a secure building which means our doors are locked when we are inside and when we are outside. Visitors must ring the bell to be admitted. We do not expect any visitors to be in the building, in our classroom, or in our courtyard if they have not received an invitation or permission. The children’s safety is our most primary concern.
